Sesame Place

June 23, 2010Leave a Comment

New York and New Jeresy Regions of Chai Lifeline gathered together for a fabulous trip to Sesame Place, where kids and parents had a fun filled day of fuzzy characters and fabulous rides. Camp Simcha staff members accompanied campers and kids around the park to meet all of the residents of Sesame Street and throughly enjoyed themselves in the shining sun. Special Thanks to Ephraim Shapiro for putting it all together, and to Dina Rabinowitz for all her hard work, as well as Yehuda Berko, Mark Glicksman and Yitzy Gluck for making things happen. Thank goodness for great weather! The sun filled sky mirrored the glowing faces of all who attended the trip. The question remains: Who enjoyed themselves more? The parents? Or the kids?

Niagara Falls

The only thing that may be stronger than the Camp Simcha spirit is the rushing waters of Niagara Falls. But together these two power houses of energy are an unstoppable force. And such was the case when a group of teens from around the country journeyed on a 6 day trip to Niagara Falls & Toronto. A dedicated group of staff guided their current and former campers around the magnificent falls leading to a climatic meeting with the famed singer and composer Abie Rotenberg who graced the group with his melodic voice and inspiring lyrics. For these boys it was an experience of a lifetime, to stand next to the falls, to feel the spray of the water. And as always, the weather was on Camp Simcha’s side and the sun shone bright. Last but not least, our appreciation to the Toronto community for their hospitality and unparalleled kindness and generosity. Niagara, ay?

Friends ‘n Fun Weekends Offer Plenty of Both

May 10, 2010Leave a Comment

They are Chai Lifeline’s newest programs: weekends in communities across the country that bring together kids, counselors, and Chai Lifeline friends. In the past two years, the organization has held 22 weekends in the greater NY area, South Florida, Los Angeles, and Chicago. More than 1,500 campers, potential campers, and staff members have attended.

The weekends are a boon to campers who don’t get to see their camp friends during the year. They also introduce potential campers to the spirit of camp, and give them an opportunity to meet friends who may be bunkmates in the summer. Friends ‘n Fun weekends have gotten rave reviews from hosts, who love joining in the activities and soaking in the exuberance of camp life.

First-ever camp reunions heat the winter chill

May 10, 2010Leave a Comment

It used to be that once we said goodbye at the end of the summer, we didn’t see scores of campers again until the next year. No longer. Two camp reunions brought back Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special campers and staff for a weekend of zany fun and lots of laughter.

The trees were bare, but The main building was buzzing with activity throughout the three-days of “winter camp.” The dining room heated up with the sounds of singing and pounding of shoes as everyone danced their way through meals. Did anyone get any sleep or was everyone up talking and laughing half the night?

“Awesome” was the word from head counselors Ari and Rivky. They’re getting ready for summer right now, but another reunion is definitely on the calendar for next winter.

Washington DC will never be the same now that Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special Have Been There!

Teen campers had an incredible time during two trips to Washington DC this year.

Our trailblazing boys went first, spending four awesome days in Baltimore and Washington. They couldn’t decide whether the highlight of the trip was the personal White House tour and meeting with the First Dog or the personal tour of Shaindy Lowenthal’s home. The girls soon followed, adding (among other things) a special viewing of President Obama going onto Marine 1, VIP boxes at the Washington Nationals baseball game, and a night out on a party boat to their itinerary.

Kudos and lots of thanks to Mark Glicksman, Joe Woolley and Ori Greenstein, who coordinated the trips.

Take a Look at Our New Website!

May 10, 2010Leave a Comment

Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special campers, families, and staff have a new way of staying in touch and keeping up with the latest news: the new camp website goes live before the 2010 camp season.

Finally, there is one place where campers can listen to camp songs, watch videos, and communicate with one another and staff. www.campsimcha.org lets campers keep a toe in the waters of camp all year long.

A private social networking interface will allow campers to share information, post photos, and form affinity groups. Parents will be able to log in during camp sessions to view photos, read the camp blog, see the daily schedule, and contact camp staff.

The site will be live by the beginning of the 2010 season. So get ready to rock online!
