What “Goes” With Highlighter Yellow?!

June 30, 2016Leave a Comment

Get your “RAD” on today dudes and dudettes, with a Simcha Special glance back into an 8O’s whirlwind of color for Neon Thursday. Boom Boxes, Rubik’s cubes and Journey’s hit song “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” were all on display this morning trailed by highlighter pink and yellow wigs. with our Division Heads dressed as cassette tapes and neon colored bagels on the breakfast menu, 8O’s Thursday was off to a totally gnarly start! Spray-paint graffiti and glow-in-the-dark golfing are on the schedule and we are totally excited!

Acrobatic Twists and Silk Flips

June 29, 2016Leave a Comment

Acrobatics was on the night activity agenda this June 29th. “The Circtaculars” curved and juggled, climbed and swung in Jacob’s Gym and some of our very own got to perform right along with them. Five volunteers sported their hoola-hooping talents while the performers shoulder-climbed and front-flipped with impossible flexibility. This is Camp Simcha Special signing off for the night and looking forward to tomorrow’s color scheme…

A Day in the Life of A Simcha Boot Camper…

FullSizeRender (4)IMG_7727 (1)There we were, peering down at the long road ahead of us from the top of “Warrior Summit,” a steady rope climb from the ground below. Our fellow soldiers were right behind us beginning their ascents into the muddy madness ahead. We slid down into the “Mud Mounds,” trying to keep our balance amidst a jungle of trenches and hills oozing with freshly wet mud. But we trudged on, eager to prove ourselves to our superior captains and to ourselves. We would beat this “TOUGH MUDDER” no matter what! Pretty soon we came upon a sign that read “Walk the Plank,” warning us of the criss-cross of balance beams that beckoned us onward, daring us to defeat its narrow turns. Some of our troops managed a few beams only to plummet into a pool of muddy chaos after a single false step. We picked up our fellow campers and brushed ourselves off determined to move on. The tire jumps came next and we once again took on the challenge, alternating each foot through a corresponding tire until all of our troops were through. The last obstacle came in the form of a muddy swamp, yes, it was the notorious “Muddy Mayhem!” We slid down a water slide right into its swampy embrace, our clothes caked in layers of grime and dirt, a sweet testimony to our success. We had done it! We had fought hard and completed the legendary “TOUGH M
UDDER!” With our feet heavy with mud and music in our ears, we looked back at the dripping, mucky trail we had left behind, a messy slew of Camp Simcha Troopers on this very brown day.

Chocolate Cheeks to Muddy Mayhem

June 29, 2016Leave a Comment

“The muddier the better” seems to be the rallying cry here at Camp Simcha Special today. We have been seeing it all this afternoon starting with double chocolate brownies, chocolate smoothies only to be topped by chocolate cheeks and faces. It seems we have left no territory unexplored with more muddy derivatives still to come including the new, never seen before on Simcha Special camp grounds- “TOUGH MUDDER!” Our very own mud- infused obstacle course that promises to be the most challenging and dirtiest new feature to Simcha Special this summer! Best of luck to all of our campers who plan to take on Brown day’s “TOUGH MUDDER!”

Day 3: Boot Camp Breakfast

June 29, 2016Leave a Comment

IMG_7722It’s rough tough and muddy out there with brown day off to an army-sized start! The dining room was clad in climbing walls, camouflaged paint and an array of costumes from cookie suits to camels. We’ve had our fair share of leopard prints, Indian and cowboy vests and even a tree! Our girls have gone all out for a muddy, ruddy brown day extravaganza! The schedule looks promising with more grit and grime-filled activities still to come!

Day 2: Blue

June 28, 2016Leave a Comment

We finished off the day with a Simon Says night activity hosted by Steve Max, who is known far and wide as a professional Simon says player. Several of our girls were called up to play challenge rounds and Steve finished off the night with an individual round with each and every camper! This is Camp Simcha Special signing off for the night…

Day 2: Blue

The gym was covered in blue mats, gallons of soap and foam-making machines that can only be described as, well, foam-making machines. Yes, it was a foam-filled ocean mania out there and we wasted no time soaping up with bubble Afros and snow ball spuds. Some of us became sea monsters lost in thick dollops of white, foamy fluff while others danced to the music while trying to side-step the perpetual foam showers and bubble tosses. The afternoon forecast definitely looks promising with more sea world action and bubble-blue chaos to come.

Day 2: Blue

June 28, 2016Leave a Comment

We started off our day underwater with an under-the-sea wonder world for blue day. Our girls were greeted by bubble machines, graceful mermaids and mysterious sea creatures as they ate breakfast this morning. For blue day, our girls have thought of the most original costumes from Superman shirts to Ranger jerseys and Madeline coats. The schedule for today looks busy and very exciting…

Welcome To Camp Simcha Special 2016: Day 1- Arrival

June 28, 2016Leave a Comment

With tutus donned, face-paint applied and the costume closet pillaged, we took off on this very first welcome day of camp with a high dosage of music from DJ Laykay at the front gate, and a mottle of colorful, costume-enthused staff members. They greeted our campers as they made their way into a color-crazed Camp Simcha Special through a stampede of cheers and a tunnel of outstretched arms welcoming each girl to our first kick-off session of the summer!

Day 1: Night Activity

June 27, 2016Leave a Comment

Following an afternoon of “singing in the rain,” our girls learned the new theme song and the accompanying dance for this year’s color-crazed theme. Dancing in the dining room  was followed by night activity, where we all gathered in the gym to watch the Skyriders, a trampolining trio, who double swirled and triple flipped while providing fantastic side comedy to officially integrate us into the flying, soaring. triple-hop-jump-and-touch-the-sky rhythm of Camp Simcha Special.
