Peace!

July 1, 2013Leave a Comment

Gooood morning CSSers, and welcome to the late 60s!

Peace and love are spreading around the Simcha dining room.  Signs that say “GROOVY,” “LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED,” “GIVE PEACE A CHANGE” and “FLOWER POWER” are plastered on the tie-dye backdrop that is hanging in front of the stage.  Campers and staff members are dressed in hippie getup: peace sign shirts, earrings, belts, glasses, fringed bell bottoms, and hippie headbands.

After everyone ate their last bites of breakfast, they all gathered near the stage and danced away!

Now off to learning groups!

Flying High With Night Activity

June 30, 2013Leave a Comment

Three incredibly talented trampoline experts joined us in CSS tonight and wowed us with their tricks!  They flipped and jumped and even stopped mid-air to make hilarious moves!  One of the guys did a triple back flip in the air, and he was so high he almost touched the ceiling! They even jumped with skateboards and skis that weighed up to 15 lbs strapped on their feet!! Now that takes talent!

They ended off the show with booming music, and everyone got up and danced to the beat.  The campers took pictures with the talented crew after the show, which made the night activity all the more exciting!

Simcha Spotlight: Sweet Shoppe

June 30, 2013Leave a Comment

Off to the side of the Camp Simcha dining room is every camper’s dream: Nadia’s Sweet Shoppe.  Our campers are hard at work, baking all sorts of delicious treats.  Every day is a different pastry, and today’s special pastry is… cookies!  Campers enjoy putting different toppings on the cookies like chocolate chips, frosting, whipped creams, sprinkles, and more!

Dani liked the whipped cream best; “I put it on my nose and on my water bottle, too,” she admitted.

And do you know what the best part about the Sweet Shoppe is?  You get to keep everything you bake!

Mazel Tov!

Below the dining room, down the stairs, is the computer room (where all of CSS blogs are created.)  Sitting in the corner of the room on the computer, I can feel the ceiling and the walls shaking around me.

That’s because all of CSS are singing and dancing for Michal’s Bat Mitzvah!! A huge mazel tov to Michal and her family!  Aviva is playing the piano, and everyone is singing and cheering!  The black-and-white floor in “Simcha Diner” has now become a dance floor as campers and staff members dance to the beat of the music.  All of Michal’s friends dance around her in a circle and wish her Mazel Tov. A gigantic cake sits on the table next to the dance floor waiting to be cut and eaten! Mmm, yummy!

Once again, a special Mazel Tov to Michal on your Bat Mitzvah!  We are so happy for you, and we are honored to be able to spend your bat miztvah with you!

Let’s Rock N’ Roll! (1950s)

June 30, 2013Leave a Comment

A “Simcha Diner” sign is hanging on the side of the stage in the dining room – it seems that out dining room is now a 1950s diner! In front of the counter are four red stools, and a bunch of round red tables cover the black and white marble floor.  A flyer for an Elvis Presley concert is posted on one of the tables.  Above the counter on the back wall, hangs a big sign of the menu and specials of the day, along with Coca Cola signs.  In the corner of CSS diner is a juke box that is playing 50s music.
As for our diner’s customers? Campers and staff members are dressed up in the traditional 1950s garb: poodle skirts and white bobby socks tucked into their pure white sneakers.  Some are wearing rock n’ roll garb; all black and some funky hats, belts, leather jackets, and guitar glasses.  Malka Bracha even dressed up as a Coke bottle!  Abby of course went all out and dressed up as Elvis!

Shavuah Tov!

June 29, 20131 Comment

What a beautiful first Shabbos in CSS!  Although the rain kept us indoors a lot of Shabbos, the singing and cheering definitely made up for it!  And today’s skit featuring Rabbi K’s wife was a huge hit; the whole audience couldn’t stop laughing.  During the afternoon, the campers played Bingo, relaxed in the library, and some even took Shabbos naps.

We’re looking forward to another fabulous week in CSS!

. . .And then something special happened.  I thought I heard something loud!

Only in Camp Simcha would they bring in a HELICOPTER for all the campers to take a ride!!

After the ride, Shira exclaimed, “It was AWESOME!”

A special thank you to Eli Rowe who brought his helicopter!

Isn’t Camp Simcha Special amazing?!

Twenties: Flappers, Newsboys, and Black n’ White

June 28, 2013Leave a Comment

Gooood morning, everyone!  A whole week has gone by, can you believe it?

Everyone went all out with their flapper dresses, feathered hats,  and the boys, in button-downs, nickers, suspenders, and newsboy caps.  Esti even wore a TV costume in light of the theme!

Props to everyone who helps decorate the dining room every night – you do a beautiful job!

Breakfast was fast, and everyone ran off to their learning groups and their first two activities.

Simcha Spotlight: Mosaics

June 27, 2013Leave a Comment

Today, at the mosaics workshop, Simi made a sign that read, “I love Taylor” out of mosaics, Samantha made a sign for the door to her room, and Talia made a picture frame with mosaic tiles around the frame.  Everyone was working diligently using small mosaic tiles, tacky glue, and soon, grout, to create beautiful masterpieces! Making mosaics is really fun!!
