“There is no place like home.” L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

August 20, 2014Leave a Comment

One word: Insane. That is the one word that best describes today. Today was one of the most action packed exciting days so far this summer and if you’ve been reading this blog than you know that means alot….So down to business.

Today was Willy Wonka/The Wizard of Oz day so as is typical of such a theme day the Tin Woodman was noticed hanging out with a group of Oompa Loompas (we all know how they slack off at the chocolate factory). After the typical morning activities (Fencing,Rocketry…you know the drill) we had lunch and than the Tardasim went on their annual mini-trip to Walmart and TJ Max (because we all know the joys of  shopping at Superstores). Of course the rest of camp had awesome activities to(in the spirit of  the day there was a willy wonka/wizard of oz candy activity).

After supper we had an amazing special activity which turned out to be an IMPROV MUSICAL our amazing staff performed an entire musical without any rehearsals(But with some guidance from Duvi)!!!! This musical entitled “The Very Scary Witch”. This classic Simcha production takes its inspiration from the L. Frank Baum classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” (I suspect it was also inspired by other classic performances such as Newsies, The Lion King,Wicked ,and Dembi). Upon reaching the happy ending of aforesaid musical, Luke and Benji got up on stage and sang a very moving duet (several members of the audience were brought close to tears). And for the final activity of the night we learned a flashmob which we may or may not be performing at Six Flags tomorrow (Did I mention we were going to Six Flags tomorrow?).

P.P.P.S. All you guys that sang in the musical you were Incredible (with a capital I)

One final mention:“I’ve heard tell that what you imagine sometimes comes true.
-Grandpa Joe”

Why so serious – The Dark Knight

Today was superhero day!!! As you can imagine there was a multiplicity of superheroes(and supervillains) hanging around camp. I spotted Green Lantern chilling on a bench with the Joker,Batman, and the Flash.(many of these superheroes didn’t seem to be doing a very good job as evidenced by Thor hanging out with Iron Man and Loki).

This morning we were greeted by a special surprise guest…CC Sabathia!!! (for all of you baseball illiterates out there CC Sabathia is a star NY Yankees pitcher and helped lead them to a World Series in 2009 and will hopefully help lead them to many more). CC signed baseballs/jerseys/much random stuff (Even his own hat!) for campers. after EVERYONE got their selfies with CC (#butfirstletmetakeaselfie), he showed the whole camp how to throw a baseball (carefully because he’s injured) which of course was captured by our awesome media crew (shoutout to benji!).

We of course had a superhero themed activity: each camper created a supercharacter and then filmed themselves against a green screen for all sorts of cool effects. Camp Simcha superman anybody?

For a special activity we had trampolines!!!! (the cool kind)

Deal Day-Ballpark Mysteries

August 18, 2014Leave a Comment

Today was an one of the most packed fun days we had in camp!

After the assorted regular activities in the morning(did I mention how awesome pottery.glass fusion, and darkroom are?) we had a SURPRISE CARNIVAL!!!!

Everyone had a blast(including me and I was shooting pictures) especially the guys in the bubble pit. After the carnival we had DEAL DAY in the social hall. All the campers got tons of cool free stuff (although there were also some baby socks from what I heard). After the campers got their stuff and were all the free swag we had a MASSIVE BARBECUE outside on the grass {Dembi organized a hot dog eating contest…) after which we had a an intercamp…Deal vs Camp Simcha(Shoutout to Benny aka Chimichuri for being an all star scorer)!!! And if this wasn,t enough crazy fun we were immediately treated to a beautiful fireworks display!!!

Lovin it

Elkana

P.S. Shoutout to Moishy’s GoPro

P.P.S. The dress up theme was Jersey day and I am proud to say I rocked my NY Giants Super Bowl T-shirt and cap.

I Love Magic-Harry Potter

Today was a packed day, I don’t even know what to write about first, but I’ll try.

The theme of the day was HARRY POTTER and true to form the Hogwarts Express was spotted rolling around camp. We also had many  Harry Potter themed activities such as QuidditchI almost landed detention with Professor Snape, but thankfully I got out of it. Right after lunch the entire camp put on bathing suits and we had a massive water fight(the entire vs Dr Lenny) We dressed up afterwords in our Camp Simcha T-shirts to shoot a MUSIC VIDEO!!!. For a special activity we were enthralled by a special concert by the one and only…Gad Elbaz!!!DSC_0121

Always with you

Shout Out to Dr Lenny for being such a good sport

Walk the Plank Matey!

August 15, 2014Leave a Comment

Today right after breakfast we were greeted by a roaring surprise…A HELICOPTER!!! Every camper was taken up in the helicopter for a scenic tour of the local area.

The theme of the day today was pirates and true to form, I saw many of the aforementioned rascals of the high seas wandering around camp. It got to the point that after lunch we found outside the front office a series of wanted posters offering various rewards for these criminals. Accordingly we had a special activity in which we hunted down these criminals(They had very devious hiding places among them laundry bags and garbage cans) and executed upon them the sentence of WALKING THE PLANK(into the lake)!!!

I spotted a massive flour fight going on by challah baking after the special activity, it looked like a lot of fun.

Shabbat Shalom

P.S. A big shout out to the guy that hid in a laundry bag while we were hunting for pirates. That was amazing!DSC_9983 DSC_9966

A Living Fairy Tale

August 14, 2014Leave a Comment

They say Camp Simcha is a fairyland where dreams come true(like not paying for soda from the machine). Well today Simcha officially became fairyland, I can personally attest to having spoken with a Dwarf and a Gnome(one of which I’m pretty sure was Dembi).

Upon finishing lunch we promptly executed a fire drill to perfection (we went down to the baseball field) where were we were greeted by a fire engine red LAMBORGHINI leading the luxury /sport car show for us!!! All the campers got to ride in the cars(I even spotted some in the drivers seat!!!) and got to experience firsthand a ride in a luxury sports car. An interesting addition to the luxury car show was a homebuilt “racecar” which was spotted rolling around camp.

We were all blown away by the amazing bike show as they bedazzled us for a special activity showing off amazing tricks. Rumor has it that we are going on helicopter rides tomorrow!

G’night Y’all

Elkana

P.S. Don’t tell anyone in camp about the helicopters, it’s a secret 😉

Camp Simcha: A Whole New World

August 13, 2014Leave a Comment

Camp Simcha 2014 has officially begun!!!

Camp is really awesome! As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure that the unofficial camp theme song is “Everything is Awesome” . Either way down to business.

Camp is its own magical little world, with superheroes, villains, and pretty much any storybook character wandering around (I’m pretty sure I saw Darth Vader hanging out with Superman and the Mad Hatter by the front gate). All these characters gathered at the front gate to greet the campers and cheer them on as they emerged in a cloud of swirling fog from the tunnel onto planet Simcha. Did I mention-THIS PLACE IS ELECTRIC!!!(WHAT WHAT).

After arrivals, which involved a crazy four hour dance party with our very own DJ Jon, we hurried to dinner and ate quickly, in anticipation for the surprise special activity which turned out to be-AN EPIC MAGIC SHOW!!! Among other tricks, we learned that a chameleon hat can take on many different forms(including pirate, american revolutionary, and napoleon!!!), and that money can be found anywhere, including the inside of a potato! A special shout out to Justice for being an amazing magician’s assistant, and kudos to Israel for being a good sport about having punch “poured” into his shoe (I don’t know if I would have taken it  nearly as well…). If only we had more time…

peace out

Elkana

P.S. Special shout out to Dr Benjy
