Fabulous Foodies in Simcha

July 1, 2014Leave a Comment

Between activities campers picked candy that was hanging from a tree.  In sweet shoppe, campers made faux meatballs,  spaghetti and chicken.  Faigy G. said that the meatballs she made in sweet shoppe were really tasty, but not as tasty as the ones her mom made.

Then campers gathered in the dining room for a fabulous food expo.  There was mint archery; campers aimed and shot mints into their counselors gaping mouths.  There was fruit carving where campers carved fruit to resemble human faces.  Some campers decorated napkin rings and salad servers using a wide selection of beautiful glass beads and wires while others eagerly decorated muffins using every candy imaginable.  Junior sushi chefs worked diligently at one station creating tasty rolls.  It was quite a delicious activity.

Exiting Electives

July 1, 2014Leave a Comment

For a few days CCS is offering special elective activities.  In one elective campers learn how to apply makeup and what colors work best with their complexions. In another activity, campers make miniature masterpieces out of clay.  If they so wish, campers can choose to play tennis, or they can connect with their musical side and learn how to play an instrument.

It’s Raining Meatballs!

July 1, 2014Leave a Comment

The weather forecast is in – be warned of the falling meatballs today! We’ve entered a portal into another one of our favorite childhood books/movie: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. The Dining Hall is stocked with the most delicious (rather enlarged) food – on the stage, hanging from the ceiling, and there is food roaming around campus as well. Campers and staff are dressed like food, and division heads are dressed as clouds. (While we did get hungry from all this food, you needn’t worry, this morning we had an especially delicious breakfast of french toast and scrambled eggs.)

We are also celebrating Canada Day in camp. Our native Canadians, many decked out in red and white,  sang the national anthem at breakfast. Appropriately, we had maple syrup available for french toast during breakfast.

For second activity, the entire camp gathered on the deck of the Dining Hall for a Meatball and Spaghetti Hunt. At the count of 3, all were released onto campus to gather the scattered spaghetti (string) and meatballs (pom-poms). With all the string and pom-poms gathered, the divisions each sat together in the gym and created the ultimate meatball and spaghetti dish. We tied the strings together to make long strings which stretched cross the length of the gym! It was an especially fun activity, as we held and measured the strings which zigzagged across the large gym.

Simcha Special’s Super Slumber Party

June 30, 2014Leave a Comment

Camp Simcha Special had a girls night.  Campers got manicures, made sleeping caps, and decorated pillow cases.  Then they stretched out on comfy blankets that were spread out on the floor and watched Cinderella.  It was the perfect end of a wonderful day.

Simcha: the camp that never sleeps

Campers and staff had a spontaneous shaving cream fight.  Covered in white globs from head to toe, everyone was laughing and making silly faces.  After getting hosed off, campers gathered for Simcha’s very special talent show.  Each camper was cheered on as they performed the presentations that they had worked hard on.  There were music videos, comedy skits, dancing and much more.  The Simcha stars sparkled under the stage lights.

Goodnight Moon

June 30, 2014Leave a Comment

Is it morning? Night? Excuse us, we’re not quite sure because today we’ve jumped into one of our favorite childhood books: Goodnight Moon. Campers and staff are dressed in pajamas (really, the only appropriate attire for a day like this) and Division Heads are dressed like the cows that jumped over the moon. There are some sheep wandering around as well. (Just don’t try to count them.) When we arrived to the Dining Hall, we felt as if the page came to life right in front of us.

goodnightmoonmorning

Although many were wearing pajamas, there was no time to snooze because Camp Simcha Special had an crazy carnival! Brought by our friends from Goldman Sachs, campers had a great time going from exciting booth to exciting booth. Campers had their faces painted and picked up some freshly-popped popcorn along with some sweet slush.  They jumped on the moonwalk, slid down a giant inflated slide and danced in an inflatable filled with foamy bubbles.  Armed with soaked sponges, campers aimed at a counselor’s face and hit her target.  Campers then made their way to the dunking booth where they threw balls at a red target.  If they hit the target, they heard the gratifying “clunk” as the person suspended over a tank of water got soaked.  At another booth, campers attached to harnesses jumped on trampolines and flew high above the crowd. There were many many other great booths and activities, each of which promised some serious fun.

The Magic Continues in Neverland

June 30, 2014Leave a Comment

Campers made sand art out of pixie dust, before going to night activity.  A mesmerizing magician came to perform an incredible night activity.  He read minds and even made a table float.  Every trick left everyone dumbfounded and thirsting for more.  A whole new adventure begins tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted.

Magical Moments in Simcha

June 29, 2014Leave a Comment

Today campers in Camp Simcha Special had fun with music in a special jamming activity.  Campers learned exactly how a violin is played and what it is made out of.  Apparently horse hair is used to construct a violin bow!  Campers stroked the “hairy” bow and patted the violin’s smooth surface.  Campers were awed by the beautiful sound of the accordion, and they were taught that an accordion is a wind instrument. They listened to the air rushing in and out of the the accordion.  Campers learned how to play a song on the guitar, and everyone played and sung it together. Then campers went wild with the bongos, stomping and clapping with the beat.  The room pulsated from the energy…and from the noise.

Today Camp Simcha Special celebrated Sara’s Bat Mitzvah. She had a spectacular fairy themed party (which was very appropriate since CCS was Neverland today).  There was a humongous beautifully decorated cake,  an assortment of green sweets, and green pixie juice.  Campers enjoyed delicious green cotton candy made from some very tasty magical pixie dust.  Dancing and lively music followed.  After the dancing  campers made their very own fairy tutus out of pink, purple, green and blue tulle.  The fairies than formed a circle to hear a few beautiful words from Sara’s dad.

With a wave of their wands, the fairies disguised themselves as pirates and rushed to their next activity, capture the (pirate) flag.  In Simcha’s never never land, we never never stop smiling.  Peter Pan leads the way to even more great fun.

We’re Off to Neverland

June 29, 2014Leave a Comment

This morning, camp was woken up by a rousing rendition of our favorite Peter Pan songs. As you most probably guessed, Camp Simcha Special will be transported to Neverland today, a land where fairies are quite real. Peter Pans, Wendys, pirates and fairies roam the campus, and some lost boys wander aimlessly with their bows and arrows.

After a quick clean-up of the bunkhouses, we have the usual amazing activities available: pottery, arts & crafts, wood working, candle making, leather, ductigami, and more! Stay tuned – lunch will be particularly amazing as it is Sara’s Bat Mitzva today!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

June 27, 2014Leave a Comment

Campers went somewhere over the rainbow and had a paint fight!  Campers came away from the special activity looking like unique pieces of modern art.  After washing up, campers went to the spa where they were also painted, but in a more traditional manner;  they got manicures and pedicures, and they even got their makeup done.
