Shabbos In Camp

July 14, 2013Leave a Comment

Wow! What an amazing Shabbat we had, with non-stop action all the way through!

On Friday night, we had a great meal with singing, division cheers etc., Duvie “the Legend” Becker entertained us with his stories (and the hilarious simultaneous “translation” to Hebrew for the Israelis). He also gave 3 campers a special award for displaying great kindness to others.

We spent the next day relaxing and getting to know each other better. The library was full all afternoon, with guys reading, chatting and playing games. (Who doesn’t love a good game of “Mafia”?)

The game room was also busy, with intense competitions on the ping pong and pool tables. Counselors and campers battled it out, with both sides trying their best to win.

We also had an epic BINGO game, with spectacular prizes, ranging from Coby MP3 Players, all the way to the top prize, an iPod Nano!

As night descended onto camp, we gathered on the porch, facing the setting sun, for a deeply inspiring kumzitz. We sang all the classics, providing solos on the high parts.

Once the sun had finally disappeared under the horizon, and Shabbat ended, we went into the dining room for a very lively disco. With our talented band giving it all they got, we really rocked the place!

After that, we split into divisions. For some it was movie night, and others had fishing. The Israeli division even had a delicious barbeque by the pool.

Wow! What a special day in camp! Where do I begin?

We started off the day with the legendary Duvi Becker’s melodious wake up call. We had a great breakfast which nowhere but Camp Simcha could provide. We had a bunch of awesome activities but “football” otherwise known as soccer to those not from England was definitely the most popular sport of the day. The English showed their moves but let’s be real, who got all the points?

Take care everyone!

What an exciting day in camp it was today!

The day went by without even a second to spare. We started the day with division meetings, where we got to know our division heads and everyone in our divisions. After that, boating, swimming, rock climbing and many more activities could be seen around camp.

Our night-activity was a pleasant surprise. Dancing Acrobats! We cheered them on as they did flips and preformed the limbo at a height where only an ant can fit, and even balanced on wooden chairs.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for tomorrow!

Welcome Back To Camp Simcha Boys 2013

Welcome to Camp Simcha 2013!!!

Wow! After all the months we sat and waited, the day has finally arrived!

All the counselors are dressed up crazy, with green noses, clown outfits and other crazy stuff! I even spotted Batman and Superman dancing together!

As each camper arrived, he was greeted with the famous Camp Simcha greeting dance, complete with a five piece band, the “Tunnel,” shoulder ride, announcement by Dembi and the world-renowned “Sandwich.”

Campers kept on coming all day, from Brooklyn, Baltimore, even England.

We then went to the dining room for our first great Simcha-style meal of the season. Just as supper was ending, we received news that the Israeli group would be arriving any minute. We all rushed out to greet them, and the dancing started all over again.

Straight after that, we rushed over to the Social Hall for an incredible night activity. Based on the above, it shouldn’t be hard to guess what the activity was… even more dancing! Though this time, we had an extremely talented group on stage showing us some great moves!

We finally headed to the bunkrooms to unpack, and get some much-needed sleep.

The rumors are, that tomorrow will be a packed and exciting day, and I don’t want to miss anything, so good night for now.

See you tomorrow!

About ParentSpace and our Galleries

Before the session begins, we would like to clarify some things about our Facebook galleries, public galleries on our website, and ParentSpace galleries.

First, if your child is photo-released “in camp only”, he or she will only appear in the ParentSpace gallery. Your child will not appear on Facebook, nor on the public side of the site. So if your child is a camper, go ahead and sign up for ParentSpace. Not only will you see more pictures (2x more pictures than on FB), but you will also be privy videos that are produced special for you every day, a special blog, the daily camp newsletter, camp schedule, and more exciting features.

Second, please follow the instructions below for the proper way to log in to your account. If you haven’t applied for an account, please go ahead and apply for an account. You should be verified within 48 hours.

However, until we correct this glitch, we ask that you instead login by going to campsimcha.org and clicking login in the top right corner.

If you are still having trouble with ParentSpace, or if you have any questions, comments, requests, or suggestions for the blogs, please contact zahavah@campsimcha.org

Goodbye Camp Simcha Special!

And this is our last goodbye – until next year, that is.

All the buses are getting ready to leave; some have even left already.  Everyone is either crying or hugging each other goodbye.  We will miss you, CSS!  We love you all.

Last Day in CSS

Dinner was a beautiful, lavish banquet set up like a wedding.  We had all different types of meat and chicken and all sorts of delicious food.

After dinner we sat around the stage in the center of the dining room, and we had a special graduation for all our graduates this year: Melanie C., Frannie C., Shira G., Elisheva F., Samara and Molly Z., Dalia O., Chedva and Nechama K., and Chaya Fraydel.  Each graduate sat on the stage and got a chance to say her goodbye speech and her thank you’s to everyone, and we all cheered for them.  Tears were streaming down many of our faces because their speeches were so emotional and beautiful.

We will miss each and every one of you so much, and you will always be in our thoughts.  We wish you much success in all your future endeavors. We love you!
We walked to the social hall afterward to hear the rest of the thank you’s, and the nurses and medical staff put on a hilarious and talented dance on stage.  Finally, we watched an INCREDIBLE video made by our very own CSS video staff!  It was about an hour of beautiful videos, pictures, and memories throughout these past two weeks, going in order of the days of the week.  Day by day, theme by theme.  Once again, we cried and laughed and applauded! Wow, thank you to all our amazing videographers who put that together!
And the night continued! We all gathered on the lawn facing the lake to watch gorgeous fireworks set up by our very own Bency Brown.  “Somebody call Bency Brown, fireworks are burnin’ in Camp Simcha, whoooooa!!”  They started off small, and ended off bigger and brighter and more beautiful than ever.  Music played in the background, and the timing was perfect because it flowed so well with the fireworks that got bigger and smaller.  All the campers got glow-in-the-dark Camp Simcha sticks to wave in the air during the fireworks.  At the end of the fireworks, we heard a goodbye song from the head counselors, and then we danced in the middle of the grass.
This summer was truly an amazing one, and we don’t want to go home.  We will miss you all dearly, and we love you!!
