Camp Simcha & Camp Simcha Special
Simcha Magic: Feel It In The Air!
Today was superhero day!!! As you can imagine there was a multiplicity of superheroes(and supervillains) hanging around camp. I spotted Green Lantern chilling on a bench with the Joker,Batman, and the Flash.(many of these superheroes didn’t seem to be doing a very good job as evidenced by Thor hanging out with Iron Man and Loki).
This morning we were greeted by a special surprise guest…CC Sabathia!!! (for all of you baseball illiterates out there CC Sabathia is a star NY Yankees pitcher and helped lead them to a World Series in 2009 and will hopefully help lead them to many more). CC signed baseballs/jerseys/much random stuff (Even his own hat!) for campers. after EVERYONE got their selfies with CC (#butfirstletmetakeaselfie), he showed the whole camp how to throw a baseball (carefully because he’s injured) which of course was captured by our awesome media crew (shoutout to benji!).
We of course had a superhero themed activity: each camper created a supercharacter and then filmed themselves against a green screen for all sorts of cool effects. Camp Simcha superman anybody?
For a special activity we had trampolines!!!! (the cool kind)

P.S.“Iron Man”. That’s kind of catchy. It’s got a nice ring to it. – Iron Man
P.P.S.Shoutout to Bentzy for that move with CC’s hat that was brilliant and a shoutout to Dembi for that expression its priceless (same for efshap)
P.P.P.S. I couldn’t resist posting the picture of Dr Lenny
Final P.S. check out the awesome job our media team is doing in the picture below!
One final mention: Amitai and Jason getting your heads signed was a stroke of pure genius
Final final mention: Just in case you couldn’t tell I’m a major Yankee fan
P.P.S.
Today was a packed day, I don’t even know what to write about first, but I’ll try.
The theme of the day was HARRY POTTER and true to form the Hogwarts Express was spotted rolling around camp. We also had many Harry Potter themed activities such as QuidditchI almost landed detention with Professor Snape, but thankfully I got out of it. Right after lunch the entire camp put on bathing suits and we had a massive water fight(the entire vs Dr Lenny) We dressed up afterwords in our Camp Simcha T-shirts to shoot a MUSIC VIDEO!!!. For a special activity we were enthralled by a special concert by the one and only…Gad Elbaz!!!
Always with you
Elkana
Shout Out to Dr Lenny for being such a good sport
P.S. Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure-Luna Lovegood.
They say Camp Simcha is a fairyland where dreams come true(like not paying for soda from the machine). Well today Simcha officially became fairyland, I can personally attest to having spoken with a Dwarf and a Gnome(one of which I’m pretty sure was Dembi).
Upon finishing lunch we promptly executed a fire drill to perfection (we went down to the baseball field) where were we were greeted by a fire engine red LAMBORGHINI leading the luxury /sport car show for us!!! All the campers got to ride in the cars(I even spotted some in the drivers seat!!!) and got to experience firsthand a ride in a luxury sports car. An interesting addition to the luxury car show was a homebuilt “racecar” which was spotted rolling around camp.
We were all blown away by the amazing bike show as they bedazzled us for a special activity showing off amazing tricks. Rumor has it that we are going on helicopter rides tomorrow!
G’night Y’all
Elkana
P.S. Don’t tell anyone in camp about the helicopters, it’s a secret 😉
Camp Simcha 2014 has officially begun!!!
Camp is really awesome! As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure that the unofficial camp theme song is “Everything is Awesome” . Either way down to business.
Camp is its own magical little world, with superheroes, villains, and pretty much any storybook character wandering around (I’m pretty sure I saw Darth Vader hanging out with Superman and the Mad Hatter by the front gate). All these characters gathered at the front gate to greet the campers and cheer them on as they emerged in a cloud of swirling fog from the tunnel onto planet Simcha. Did I mention-THIS PLACE IS ELECTRIC!!!(WHAT WHAT).
After arrivals, which involved a crazy four hour dance party with our very own DJ Jon, we hurried to dinner and ate quickly, in anticipation for the surprise special activity which turned out to be-AN EPIC MAGIC SHOW!!! Among other tricks, we learned that a chameleon hat can take on many different forms(including pirate, american revolutionary, and napoleon!!!), and that money can be found anywhere, including the inside of a potato! A special shout out to Justice for being an amazing magician’s assistant, and kudos to Israel for being a good sport about having punch “poured” into his shoe (I don’t know if I would have taken it nearly as well…). If only we had more time…
peace out
Elkana
P.S. Special shout out to Dr Benjy

Whew! By far the busiest day in camp! It’s 2 am as I write this, and the night is still young!
We started the day with an improv musical. An historic event, the is the first time in world history (or at least my limited knowledge thereof) where an entire musical production was improvised. With a basic idea on storyline, some amazing videos shot on green screen and a couple of dance routines practised bunch of times, the awesomely skilled cast pulled off a hilarious performance!
With lunch came another historic event, with Nosson celebrating his Bar Mitzva!
After lunch we were visited by 8th Day. They kept the crowd jumping with their lively songs, and of course we taught them our own, which they got really involved in!
The remaining time of the afternoon was spent finishing up all our projects and picking them up from all the workshops. With glass fusion, pottery, studio, arts & crafts etc. etc. there were a lot of things to pick up. Next question: How do we fit all these amazing creations into our suitcases?
The evening brought with it a scrumptious banquet. Great food, music and a whole bunch of cover songs featuring our talented campers.
Next stop was the social hall, where we cheered on the campers who graduated this year. 15 campers are moving on, with this being their last time in Camp Simcha Special. Each was presented with a digital photo frame with over 500 pictures each, with all the pictures taken of them in camp over their many years here, some pictures dating back to 2007 and even earlier. We also had a video interview with them, as each spoke of what he gained in camp, a message for current campers and inspiring words to the others graduating.
Next came the video called “Memories 2014.” The media guys have been pulling all-nighters the last few days, putting the final touches on their masterpieces, and the video definitely brought many tough guys to tears!
Next we headed to the hill for a slideshow and fireworks show. Finally the campers’ schedule ended with Dembi’s famous announcement of “campers: to bed.” Of course no-one was ready to waste the few remaining hours here on sleep! With a strong mix of emotions, we spent the time chilling together, strengthening the bonds between us and exchanging contact information.
Staff met at 11:45 pm. Dembi spoke for a while, and then there was an open mike opportunity, with whoever wanted to pitching in with their two cents. After the official meeting ended, informal discussion continued all around camp and in all likelihood will continue through the night until the buses pull away!
It’s been a great summer, (I would add some other superlatives, but none would do it justice, and I think I’ve used them all already. Go ahead, prove me wrong and find one I didn’t use!) and I look forward to seeing you again next year; same time, same place.
Be well
We woke up to a loud throbbing sound in the air. A quick look out the window confirmed that the day had finally arrived: a helicopter had arrived, and we would all get to go for a joyride!
It’s really cool to go up a couple thousand feet in the air! You can see for miles around, and during take-off and landing you get to see the whole camp from a birds eye view – literally!
After getting off the helicopters, we went straight to the lake for our next mode of transport: Jet-skis. Racing around the lake at top speed, hanging onto the driver for dear life! Nothing like an adrenaline rush to start the day!
After expriencing air and sea transport, we had to round off the day with a representative of land, so we had a major car wash. Those who have been following how things work ’round here can already guess that the cars were not the only things to get wet; with a slight sense of dÈj‡ vu, we jumped straight in and made sure to super-soak each other to the bone!
