A Round Of Applause For Every Camper

July 4, 2016Leave a Comment

Get the microphones on, the cameras charged and crank the speakers up to highest volume because we are about to have the annual Camp Sincha Special Talent Show! 35 brave and talented souls have signed up to take the stage and floor us with their magnificent skills. First up on the schedule is Soul who will be singing a cover of “Let It Go” followed by the stupendous singing and dancing company composed entirely of bunk A2! Next up is Niya, offering some comical relief in a blow-up blueberry costume along with a handful of helpful volunteers to tell some jokes, pop a magic trick or two and get the audience geared up for the next act. We’ve booked Chaya Liba for a gymnastics performance stocked with cartwheels, splits, handstands and back-bends. Rosie will teach us some neat Tae kwon do moves armed with her orange belt, white uniform and a nunchaku chain-stick. Next will come a round with Abby on the guitar and finally Lana on the drawing board. A great big fistful of luck to all of our Camp Simcha Special superstars this afternoon, you continuously amaze us with your capabilities and talents.

Whoever you’ve been rooting for thus far, re-evaluate your loyalties because Camp Simcha Special orange day is finally here and our girls are basketball superstars this morning, sporting jerseys and worker men vests, we’ve even seen some orange clown fish! In addition to an NBA-style breakfast, many of our campers have also been signing up for the one and only, most spectacular Camp Simcha Special talent show this afternoon! We are looking forward ever so impatiently to uncovering every last hidden talent our girls have to offer. The day is a promising amalgamation of orange blends-

Carnivals and Cook-Outs

July 3, 2016Leave a Comment

Sunday afternoon was a nostalgic mixture of dusty memories and new ones in the making as we browsed carnival booths and decorated green frosted cupcakes. Thank you so much to our alumni and their families for making the trip up to share an afternoon with us here at Camp Simcha Special. We pulled off a very successful alumni day carnival equipped with bouncy houses, basketball games, face painting stations and of course, in honor of green day, a slime booth! A post carnival cookout was definitely in order and many of our campers and alumni took the mic on the front lawn sharing their thanks and memories of so many Summers spent here at camp. We hope everyone has a safe trip home tonight and thank you for coming and sharing in the simcha with us!

“Dragons and Soldiers and Frogs Oh My!”

Apparently the color green comes in many forms. From the warped slime labs of green-haired mad scientists to the peasant-like patchwork of robin hood’s do-gooder suite. Thick, goopy wads of slime trickled down the walls of our ghost busters headquarters this morning on a very green Simcha Special slime day! Plaid Irish skirts and stringy hula skirts are flocking the dining room along with our head counselors who are all clad in green aprons this morning dressed as Starbucks employees.  We are anticipating a lot more surprises in various shades of green still to come.

“Ladies and Gentleman, the Moment You’ve All Been Waiting For…”

July 1, 2016Leave a Comment

It was epic.

It was momentous.

It was “8th DAY” in Camp Simcha Special! Despite the Friday scurrying, the loaded schedule and the bucketload of activities on the agenda, Simcha Special managed to pull off another phenomenal surprise event for our emoji festival. We danced it up, we cheered it on, and in short, we bumped up the yellow-infused happiness levels on every single Simcha face this afternoon! With a promising week up ahead, this is Camp Simcha Special signing off until next time. 😉

Emoji Gojis and the Theory of Happiness

July 1, 2016Leave a Comment

As it turns out, happiness comes in yellow pockets of fluff topped with red hearts and cartooned faces. And another thing, happiness is the color yellow and the sound of our campers bustling in the gym to bopping music by DJ Laykay. Emoji pillow-making was first up for morning activities along with emoji photo booths, emoji nail polish and tattoo stations-you name it, we’ve got it! Our girls are hard at work stuffing pillows, gluing smiles and cutting out hearts all before lunch on a Friday afternoon! Our first round of emoji volley ball is starting soon and the yellow pockets of happiness continues…

One Million Smiles

Emojis have been trending for a while now and finally, finally they’ve hit Camp Simcha Special! It was an emoji filled wonderland in the dining room this morning in honor of YELLOW EMOJI DAY and our campers caught on quickly. Indeed, we have seen nearly every emotionally-caricatured yellow-faced expression this side of the East Coast! Looking forward to a happy/exciting/surprising/animating/enthusing afternoon! 🙂 😉 🙂

Glow Sticks and Juggling Acts

June 30, 2016Leave a Comment

Down at Jacob’s Gym our campers joined in on some old style karaoke and glow-in-the-dark miniature golfing as part of our neon day soirée this afternoon. Optical illusions and tennis racket juggling was up next on the post dinner menu with Keith Leaf, The Amazing Fire Juggler! His first act included Aviva, one of our very own campers who assisted Keith, passing him a ball on command as he began to juggle. Chinese yo-yos and an Indian net that resembled an American pizza tosser, composed the foreign aspects of our show tonight. For one of his final acts, Keith presented his triple knife juggling rendition followed by a knife/tennis racket/plunger juggling bonanza! And finally, the moment we’d all been waiting for (drum roll please….) The Firing Act! With the lights dimmed and the music beating, Keith whipped out the glow-in-the-dark extra heavy equipment to wrap up our neon saturated day. Complex fire juggling simultaneously coupled with comical impressions seemed to be Keith’s specialty tonight as he blew out the last torch, heading a final hurrah to our neon Thursday! This is Camp Simcha Special singing off for the night and looking forward to our first weekend together!

Street Art in Simcha Special

June 30, 2016Leave a Comment

Neon spray painting this morning ranged from benign T-shirt decorating to full blown graffiti! Campers like Jill came to sign their names or initials with bright pinks and glowing greens as part of our neon-themed activity roster. Gabi spray painted her crutches to add a bit of the 8O’s tinge to her decor while Miriam Devorah spray painted her very own counselor’s hair pink! Sneakers were highlighted and the grass around the basketball courts permanently stained as lasting remnants of our highlighting, neon painting “Color Craze!”
